And we’re back at it!
After the hot day in Hvar, it was a long night to sleep. Both Celesta and myself had a hard time sleeping – I was constantly tossing with my sunburn on my back and shoulders, and my feet elevated because they were swollen. Celesta actually went and slept on the couch in the living room of our airbnb because she was too restless in our room (btw we shared a double bed during the trip).
So the next morning we were both a little grumpy. And it was an early start because we had a long bus ride out to Krka National Park.
We walked to the bus station again (30 minutes), and got on a bus with lots of other tourists to go to the city of Skradin, where we paid to enter the national park, and boarded a boat that took us down the river and into the park. We started in the lower falls, where we walked around and looked at the different waterfalls and information stops.
I will admit, I wasn’t feeling myself – I was tired and sore, and didn’t really feel like hiking around much. I could tell it frustrated Celesta, and I felt bad about it.
The National Park is pretty big, and the waterfalls Celesta really wanted to see was about 8km away from the bottom falls, which would probably be between 1-1.5 hours walk away. It was our plan to get back to Split a little earlier than past days because we had had many long days, and we would be traveling again the next day. So taking another 3 hours of walking wasn’t really in our schedule, so we decided to stay around the lower falls and swim.
Because of my sunburn and soreness, I stayed and relaxed while Celesta swam a little. We also did the boardwalk to see all the falls around the main ones, including some interesting info stations about the region and the people who inhabited it.
It was wildly green, and luscious. It was good we got there a little early as by the time we left the area was packed with people relaxing and swimming.
We went back to the mainland where we bought our bus ticket home, and killed time by getting lunch. We ordered from a food cart, and got some KEBAPS!! FINALLY! I’ve been craving one since I left Austria, and this was pretty good!
We took the bus back to Split, walked home, and essentially vegged out for the rest of the night. We packed, had a nap, and tried to feel a little better after the last couple days.
We went for our last meal in Split at this cute restaurant on the side of the marina.
It was a nice was to close our time in Split – we had many an adventure while there, and saw so many new things!
A somewhat frustrating day ended on a good note, which I was happy for. Our waiter was also really funny. The couple sitting by us were so jealous of our spot that the minute we stood up they slid into our seats practically underneath us!
We were on the road again the next morning – but that’s another post.
