Glasgow day one!
We started bright and early, getting on the train to the central station. Our airbnb was just half a block from the train station, so it was super convenient.
Our first stop: The People’s Palace and Doulton Fountain.
The inside was a cool museum. Parts were dedicated to WWI/WWII, the history of Glasgow, and fun artwork and activities. It was pretty humbling and sad to read the things about the war – it affected so many people, and the United Kingdom was actually bombed. To see artifacts that survived, and to read people’s memories and stories always blow my mind. I really appreciated the museum.
From the People’s Palace, we decided to do a ‘hop on, hop off’ bus tour, since one stopped right outside.
Our next stop was the Riverside Museum.
This was another cool place. It had lots of antique cars and trains. It had exhibits about old Glasgow, how the city worked, how people got around. It was a really cool place. We also decided to have lunch here.
Back on the bus, our next stop was the university and the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. I don’t know what it is about universities, but I just love to see them.
I mean seriously, wouldn’t you like to go to school in a castle?!
Kelvingrove was also super cool. Unfortunately it was a little expensive, and a little late in the day to make going in worth it, but just walking around the inside a bit was wicked. Plus, it’s a beautiful building on the outside!
Back on the bus, we headed to St. Mungo’s Museum and the Glasgow Cathedral. St Mungo was the patron saint of Glasgow (also plays a role in Harry Potter haha) which is why we had a special interest in the place.
We missed the final entry into the cathedral, so we walked around and through the cemetary. We also walked across the bridge to the Necropolis of Glasgow.
Back on the bus again, we stopped in the city center to walk around, do a little souvenir shopping, grab some dinner.
Here’s also a photo dump of other pictures I took throughout the day.
What a busy day. We did so much walking, outside all day. The weather went from overcast to hot and back to cloudy by the end of the day.
After a long day, we took the train back home. In the train station we stopped and grabbed dinner at a cute diner that my mom LOVES that she found in Paris. So we got some soup, sandwiches, and what my grandma believed to be the BEST croissants in the game.
We eventually made it back, where we engaged in our evening activity of netflix and Wordscapes (apparently our favorite app haha).
We had to go to bed kinda early because yet again, we had an early start for our bus tour the next day. Most evenings we just hang out, maybe have a snack, do lots of chatting, and play wordscapes (I always end up helping my grandma because what can I say, I’m a genius). It’s fun just to hang out with my mom and grandma sometimes, without running for a bus or getting lost in a crowd. It’s been a blast to spend time with them.
BUS TOUR TOMORROW. WHO’S EXCITED?
