Hi friends. Tired of my updates yet? 🙂
OF COURSE NOT BECAUSE I’M GREAT.
Anywaysss……
today was a good day. is* a good day.
We started out around 10 today when Chloe’s buddy Jenny came by the flat to pick us up. We went downtown to an electronics store so Chloe could pick up an adapter for her electronics. We also went to a couple cheaper dollarstore-type place so Chloe could buy some new bedsheets and so Saki could buy a small garbage bin for her room.

ALSO! When Baby P comes along, I know exactly where I will buy clothes for them.

Lil’ Will will be so stylin, all the other babies will be jealous.
Jenny had to leave us to go pickup an incoming student from Korea, so the three of us went to the grocery store to pick up some more groceries. Stores are closed on sundays, and close early on saturdays, so we needed to grab some food for the rest of the weekend before we headed back. This grocery store was different from the one we went to yesterday – this one was set up much more like a Superstore, rather than like the Sears or another department store.
After groceries, we wanted some lunch! Saki didn’t get lunch with us because she was meeting a friend for food. So me and Chloe got some lunch – STREET FOOD STYLE! (shoutout to the Mexico crew!)

This place was our stop. We got Kebabs, which is super similar to a Donair or a Gyro, except it isn’t like a pita, its in a flat bun. It’s also cheap – only 3.50 euro, and it’s big! With lots of meat! The store owner working looked super confused as we tried to order what we wanted.

After lunch we headed back to the flat to drop off our groceries and SOMEHOW fit everything into our tiny fridge. I’ll be set for groceries for a while now, so that makes me fell better.
After taking a short break, me and Chloe headed out to do some exploring. And frankly, I took WAAAYYYYY too many pictures. So pretty much I’m going to post a bunch of pictures. You’re welcome.
Steyr is very beautiful, but it is definitely prettier when the sun is out! Today we walked for HOURS wandering through the center of town and up and down the river. In total we were outside for about 5 hours today, which means lots of walking up and down stairs and hills.
The weather today was really perfect. The sun was shining, and was about 10 degrees Celsius, so it wasn’t too hot or too cold. And the streets were really full! Yesterday the city seemed really empty, but today there were people everywhere! Jenny said that it probably had something to do with the weather, and the fact that it was the weekend, so people didn’t have to work. We definitely got some funny looks today as we walked around. Jenny is also Asian (born in Austria) and so we joked that people probably thought I was the Austrian showing the Asian tourists around the city. But it was fun!
As the afternoon went on, it started getting cloudy and it looked like it was going to rain, so we headed home.
We also stopped by the University, but it was closed up tight. It is about a 5 minute walk from the flat (maybe shorter than that).

We got back and Saki returned about 30 seconds after us. Now it’s getting dark outside, and it was drizzling a little. Also, there were loud bells that were ringing at 5:00pm, but I’m not sure why? But they sounded nice!
I think tonight everyone is going to relax because we spent most of the day outside walking around. I think tomorrow (weather permitting) I’ll go down to the river and bring a book with me. Nothing is open on sundays, so I’m not sure many people will be out. I thought about going into Linz for church, but I think I will go next week when I’m more settled.
Now how does all this relate to the title of my post? Well, I’ll share.
My parents are much smarter than I am. They know what the right thing is when I’m too stubborn to see it.
Yesterday we walked around for a couple hours and I got a massive blister on the bottom of my foot and my feet were super sore. I was wearing my TOMS.
TODAY:

I wore the trainers my mom INSISTED I buy. And I didn’t want them or to bring them. And now I’m glad I did. I did get 2 blisters on the back of my ankles, but it was because I wore some shorter socks. When we came back to the flat after lunch I changed my socks and that was okay. I made sure to buy bandaids today so I could speed up my blister recovery. My feet are tired, but they don’t hurt like they did. And the more I walk, the more used to it I’ll get.
So thanks mom and dad. You always know what’s up.
It’s pretty dark out now, and I could go for some dinner. I’ve been snacking on this cereal for the last little while:

It’s the only cereal that I could really tell what it was. And it’s like chocolate cookies with a minion on the box. What am I doing with my life? I’LL HAVE SALAD FOR DINNER MOM SO I’LL BE HEALTHY.
We have to put our garbage outside tomorrow morning, but we have no idea what that means – outside our door, or outside the building? The building has several floors and 4 different apartments on each floor I think, so we may watch and see what everyone else does. Hopefully we do it right and don’t get in trouble!!
Things are good here, but a tad boring. Once school starts I’m sure that will be different. Plus, the longer I am here the more comfortable I get. And once I start meeting some people and making friends, I’ll have a social calendar to keep up with. Everything will work out, I’m sure of it.
Orientation starts on Tuesday, so I may not post again until then. But we’ll see!!
Sending love from Steyr,

I agree with your dad, it’s important to always have a good pair of shoes, that’s why I always let my dad pick them out for me. He sounds like a smart guy!
